AWARDS
In the history of the OGHS Team many students have left their mark to
remember.
Listed below are many of these students.
The Heart of Forensics
The Heart of Forensics Award is the highest honor a member of Oak Grove
Forensics can receive.  Each year, one member of the senior class is chosen as
a representative of what the ideal speech competitor should be like in
competition, as a student, and in life.
Past winners of this award include Alyssa Yuen (2007), Kent Ford (2006),
Meagan Malone (2005), and Anthony Yuen (2004).
2008 Honoree - Tiera Walters
Tiera was surprised to discover she
was this year's award recipient, but
everyone else saw it coming, which
is an example of why she deserves
it.  Over the past two years as a
member of our program, Tiera has
shown that it is just as important
to win with humility as it is to
lose with grace.  She has always
been a confidant to others on our
team, and willing to stand up for
them when it is needed.  In a class
with several different personality
types, Miss Walters was without a
doubt, the correct choice to
represent the Class of 2008 in
history.
The Kent D. Ford Service Award
The Service Award is given each year to a student that goes above and beyond in
giving of their time, talents, and tenacity to help the team prepare for competition.
In 2008, the award was dedicated to its first recipient, Kent D. Ford, Class of 2006.
While determining the 2008 winner, it occurred to the coaching staff that the
criterion they based this award on was simply how Mr. Ford handled himself
throughout his time with the team.  The award is based on 4 distinct characteristics:
determination, dedication, discipline, and disposition.  To honor the change in name,
two awards were given in 2008.  Past winners include Ford (2005) and Ame' Karoly
(2007).
2008 Honoree
Catherine Crutcher
As the 2008 Chapter President,
very few team members worked as
hard as Catherine.  She made it
her goal for the year to make sure
OGHS was as successful as it had
been during the rest of her high
school years.  A young woman who
was once lead by Mr. Ford when
he was president seemed to be the
perfect choice for the year of its
dedication.
2008 Honoree
Kristen Greer
Several reasons helped make the
decision to give Miss Greer the
second Ford Award this season.
She is the highest total point
holder on the team, she was
willing to do jobs no one else
wanted to do, she helped novices
prepare for competition and she
double-qualified for both NCFL
and NFL Nationals, her 5th and
6th National Tournaments in high
school.  Her dedication through
much adversity made her the
correct choice this year.
The Coach's Awards
This award was created the year the team formed, 1998.  Each season, two
competitors were chosen for the overall contribution to the team.  For this award
leadership, respectability, citizenship, and loyalty are the main considerations.
Winners of the award include: Chelsea Caveny & Ryan Parsons (2007), Ryan
Speights & Antony Keeler (2006), Mary Ellen Ray & Marcus Cooper (2005), and
Lauren Marshall & Wendi Brown (2004).
2008 Honoree
Kaylen Addison
Kaylen's Senior year was the
crowning achivement to her four
years with OG Forensics.  Serving
as Vice President in 2008,
Kaylen's leadership skills were put
to the test.  She is also the only
member of the Class of 2008 to
qualify for NFL Nationals.  She
will compete in Las Vegas in
Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
2008 Honoree
Laken Taylor-Sells
Laken simply proves that quality
is more important than quantity.
She may not have competed in
every tournament during her two
years with the team, but she
always scored victories for us when
she did.  On top of that, she is the
most level-headed Tournament
Director we've ever had, especially
finding out she had to direct two
tournaments in one year.  Laken is
also the Class of 2008's only State
Champion.  She won Prose
Interpretation this year.
