AWARDS
In the history of the OGHS Team many students have left their mark to
remember.
Listed below are many of these students.
The Heart of Forensics
The Heart of Forensics Award is the highest honor a member of Oak Grove
Forensics can receive.  Each year, one member of the senior class is chosen as
a representative of what the ideal speech competitor should be like in
competition, as a student, and in life.
Past winners of this award include Tiera Walters (2008), Alyssa Yuen (2007),
Kent Ford (2006), Meagan Malone (2005), and Anthony Yuen (2004).
2009 Honoree - Kristen Greer
In a class where more than a
handful of your peers have proven
themselves worthy, you have to go
the extra mile in order to achieve
the highest goal.  This year's
honoree has done just that.  Miss
Greer has broken nearly every
record on the books, and set many
more in place.  She has proven
herself not only to be a confident
competitor, but an invaluable
teammate.  Always willing to step
up and help when others are
unable, she has shown us why
points and trophies aren't
everything.  But if needed, she can
bring them home too.
The Kent D. Ford Service Award
The Service Award is given each year to a student that goes above and beyond in
giving of their time, talents, and tenacity to help the team prepare for competition.
In 2008, the award was dedicated to its first recipient, Kent D. Ford, Class of 2006.
While determining the 2008 winner, it occurred to the coaching staff that the
criterion they based this award on was simply how Mr. Ford handled himself
throughout his time with the team.  The award is based on 4 distinct characteristics:
determination, dedication, discipline, and disposition.  To honor the change in name,
two awards were given in 2008 and 2009.  Past winners include Ford (2005), Ame'
Karoly (2007), Catherine Crutcher (2008), and Kristen Greer (2008).
2009 Honoree
Blakely Owens
Over the past three seasons, Miss
Owens has been a guiding force in
competition and preparation.
Setting the example for all team
members to follow, she
demonstrated that winning is
great, but doing it with humility
and grace leads to gaining the
respect of your teammates and
opponents.  With the six state
championships she has garnered,
she is a shining example of how
determination and discipline pays
off.
2009 Honoree
Christian Green
If you are looking for someone
who is already making
preparations for their future look
no further.  His dedication to his
craft can be seen every time he
performs, and he is the epitome of
someone with a disposition of
understanding how to act in a
world where so many want exactly
what you want.  There is no doubt
in our minds that we will see him
on the stage or screen in the near
future.  OG is no longer his
stage...but the world is.
The Coach's Awards
This award was created the year the team formed, 1998.  Each season, two
competitors were chosen for the overall contribution to the team.  For this award
leadership, respectability, citizenship, and loyalty are the main considerations.
Winners of the award include: Kaylen Addison & Laken Taylor-Sells (2008), Chelsea
Caveny & Ryan Parsons (2007), Ryan Speights & Antony Keeler (2006), Mary Ellen
Ray & Marcus Cooper (2005), and Lauren Marshall & Wendi Brown (2004).
2009 Honoree
William Wild
As the 2009 Chapter President,
William has shown that the team's
well being is important to him.
Always setting an example in
competition, he is no doubt one of
the strongest competitors in the
history of OG Forensics.  Now as
he continues on to another facet of
his life, we hope that William's
self-determination continues to
propel him to a future only he can
dream of.
2009 Honoree
Emily Bustin
Emily can be described as our very
own "little engine that could".  Her
"never give up" attitude has been
so refreshing, and has made the
younger members of the team
realize that without a continued
vision of what is possible you can
get bogged down in the here and
now.  Emily's strength of character
has helped her rise to the top tier
of our team.  A place she not only
deserves, but will remain and be
remembered for many years to
come.
